Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has responded swiftly and firmly to a viral video circulating across social media platforms, which purportedly shows a police helicopter delivering supplies to armed individuals in Kogi State.

In a press release issued today, May 13, 2025, the police categorically refuted the claims, describing them as false, misleading, and aimed at misrepresenting a legitimate security operation.

According to the statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the footage in question was recorded during a coordinated anti-crime mission carried out on Saturday, May 10, in the Obajana axis of Kogi State. The operation, the police clarified, was a joint effort involving federal security forces, local vigilantes, and community hunters, all working in unison to root out criminal elements in the area.

“The operation was part of sustained efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality within the region,” the statement reads. “The police helicopter was deployed as part of the mission to provide aerial support and surveillance to ground forces involved in the tactical operation.”

The viral video, which shows a helicopter landing in a rural area where armed men appear to be gathered, quickly sparked online speculation, with some suggesting that security forces were supplying food or aid to bandits — a claim the police have labeled as not only baseless but also dangerously inflammatory.

“This narrative is not only mischievous but undermines the sacrifices of security personnel who risk their lives daily to protect communities,” the police said.

The NPF urged the public to exercise caution and avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardize national security efforts. Citizens were encouraged to rely on official police communication channels for accurate updates on law enforcement activities.

This clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny of security operations across the country, particularly in regions grappling with persistent threats from bandits and kidnappers. The Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians and reiterated their readiness to work with community stakeholders to strengthen peace and security.

As misinformation continues to pose a serious challenge to public trust and operational transparency, the Force’s quick response underscores a broader move towards openness and proactive public engagement in Nigeria’s security landscape.
