The Enugu State chapter of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has kicked off a sector-by-sector evaluation of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration, beginning with a glowing appraisal of the transformative strides made in the education sector.
In a joint statement issued by the CRPP State Coordinator, Chief Innocent Ezeoha; Chairman, Dr. Afam Ani; and Secretary, Barr. Ken Ikeh, the coalition expressed satisfaction with Governor Mbah’s bold vision and strategic investments in education since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
“This inaugural phase of our comprehensive review spotlights the Education Sector, where Governor Mbah’s administration has achieved groundbreaking milestones that are already positioning Enugu as a future-forward state rooted in innovation and sustainable progress,” the statement read.
Highlighting the government’s unprecedented allocation of nearly 30% of the 2024 state budget to education—far exceeding the UNESCO benchmark of 15-20%—the CRPP described it as a “clear reflection of the Governor’s resolve to anchor the state’s socio-economic transformation on a solid educational foundation.”
A cornerstone of the administration’s educational agenda, the coalition noted, is the ambitious Smart Schools Project. The initiative envisions the construction of 260 technologically advanced Smart Schools—one in each electoral ward—equipped with features such as high-speed internet, solar power systems, robotics and AI labs, digital interactive classrooms, and Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) facilities.
“This marks a paradigm shift in the learning environment and represents a deliberate move to prepare Enugu students for global relevance and competitiveness in a 21st-century economy,” the CRPP stated.
At the tertiary education level, the CRPP praised sweeping reforms at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), where 97% of academic programs recently received accreditation—a feat attributed to improved governance and quality standards.
In further demonstration of the administration’s innovation-driven agenda, the CRPP lauded the establishment of a Centre for Experiential Learning at ESUT, designed to integrate academic instruction with industry practice. Additionally, a ₦50 million grant has been made available to support student and faculty research, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
“The CRPP, Enugu State Chapter, proudly recognizes and celebrates these monumental strides achieved in under a year. Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has shown that with visionary leadership and decisive action, meaningful change is possible,” the coalition affirmed.
The CRPP pledged to continue its impartial and constructive assessments of other sectors in the coming weeks, emphasizing its commitment to strengthening democratic governance and sustainable development in Enugu State.
