The Nigerian House of Representatives has officially fulfilled its commitment to donate half of its members’ salaries for six months, contributing ₦705 million to support vulnerable citizens across the country.
The cheque was presented to President Bola Tinubu during an Iftar dinner at the Presidential Villa on Monday.
This gesture is part of the lawmakers’ efforts to bolster the administration’s humanitarian initiatives amidst ongoing economic challenges.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, highlighted that the decision, first announced in July 2024, was a direct response to the economic hardships triggered by the removal of the petrol subsidy.
He emphasized that the funds would be allocated to Nigerians in need, aiming to alleviate the rising cost of living.
This donation underscores the House’s commitment to addressing the plight of vulnerable citizens and supporting measures to cushion the economic impact on the population.
