In a bid to enhance power transmission and distribution capacity in Lagos State, the Managing Director/CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Sule A. Abdulaziz, has commenced an inspection visit to some substations in the state. The tour, which began on December 4, 2024, aims to assess ongoing and recently completed projects.

Abdulaziz’s first stop was the Otta 132/33kV transmission substation, which falls under the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). During the inspection, he examined the newly commissioned 100/125 MVA power transformer and an ongoing installation of a second 100/125MVA transformer. The energized 100/120MVA power transformer has been in circuit since April 4, 2024, adding a maximum of 100MW to the substation’s capacity.

This significant upgrade is expected to improve power supply to IBEDC customers in Ota, Iju, Sango, Ijoko, Atan, and environs. With the completion of the second 100MVA transformer installation, the substation’s capacity will increase further, enabling IBEDC to distribute more bulk power to its customers.

Next, Abdulaziz visited the 330/132/33kV Alagbon Transmission Substation, where he inspected two new 100/125 MVA Power Transformers installed on January 18, 2024. The project, which is part of the TCN – World Bank Projects, increased the substation’s capacity from 250MVA to 440MVA. This significant upgrade provides more bulk power for Eko Disco to distribute to its customers in Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Banana Island, some parts of Lagos Island, and parts of Lekki.

Finally, Abdulaziz visited the Alausa Transmission Substation, where he inspected the newly commissioned 100/125MVA 132/33kV power transformer. The new 100MVA transformer, which was commissioned into service on September 26, 2024, increased the substation’s capacity from 135MVA to 235MVA. This upgrade makes more bulk power available for Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company to distribute to its customers in Ikeja, Oregun, Alausa, Ojodu, and environs.

These projects demonstrate TCN’s commitment to enhancing power transmission and distribution capacity in Lagos State and across the country. The ongoing TCN – World Bank Projects aim to expand transmission capacity, ensuring a more reliable and efficient power supply to meet the growing demand for electricity.

As TCN continues to invest in upgrading its infrastructure, Nigerians can expect improved power supply and a reduction in power outages. The inspection tour by Engr. Abdulaziz underscores TCN’s dedication to delivering on its mandate and ensuring that Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure is modernized and efficient.
