The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has ushered in a new era of leadership, electing Hon. Bello Lawal from Katsina State as its National President. The transition took place during the organization’s 50th National Executive Council meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The election followed the dissolution of the outgoing National Executive Council and its Principal Officers, a process overseen by the Chairman Board of Trustees (BOT) of ALGON, Chief Odunayo Ategbero.
Outgoing National President Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata expressed gratitude to the NEC, BOT, and Management Staff for their support, highlighting the achievements of his tenure. “The wonderful support has translated into months of fruitful programs and exceptional transformations in the areas of capacity-building and multi-sectoral engagements,” he noted.
Hon. Bello Lawal, in his acceptance speech, pledged to build on the progress made. “With the huge trust bestowed on me, much is expected, and I am determined to live up to such expectations.”
He emphasized the importance of unity and consultation, vowing to seek guidance from past national presidents.
The new ALGON leadership includes:
Hon. Chief Moses O. Nomeh (Deputy National President, Ebonyi State ALGON Chairman); Hon. Oluwasegun Samuel (National Treasurer, Ekiti State ALGON Chairman); Hon. Anani Hamisu Mohammed (National Publicity Secretary, Plateau State ALGON Chairman); Hon. (Chief) Isaiah Onoriode Esiovwa (National Organizing Secretary, Delta State ALGON Chairman); Hon. (Dr.) Aminu Hassan (Welfare Officer, Taraba State ALGON Chairman); Hon. Iliyasu Zakari (Financial Secretary, Niger State ALGON Chairman); and Hon. Bukar Adamu (National Auditor, Yobe State ALGON Chairman).
