The family of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has confirmed that the handwritten letter displayed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, ending Sit-At-Home in the south East was actually written by Nnamdi Kanu.

However, the self-styled Prime Minister of Biafra, Simon Ekpa, who continually declared a Sit-At-Home, contrary to statements of the leadership of IPOB ending the civil disobedience action, doubted the letter.

According to Simon Ekpa, the letter did not emanate from Kanu.

The Street Reporters Newspaper had reported that on Friday, Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor addressed a world press conference where he displayed a handwritten letter from Kanu ending all Sit-At-Home actions in the South East region of Nigeria.

But in a swift reaction, Simon Ekpa through his verified Twitter handle said, “Our attention has been drawn to the fake letter from the pit of hell being paraded by Nigeria media claiming that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wrote a letter.

“It is not only a joke but an insult taking too far that the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra is being misrepresented in this way.

“As the Prime Minister of Biafra under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, i call on all Biafrans to disregard the fake letter coming from DSS. We can’t take any order from the Islamic DSS and that is final.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be released and he must address Biafrans from Finland.

“That is the condition of the Prime Minister of Biafra and the Biafra Republic Government In Exile”.

However, Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emma Kanu has confirmed that the letter actually emanated from the IPOB leader.

Emma Kanu who visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS detention last week said, “Anybody doubting it is insane.

“I visited him last week and he has re-iterated that several times. Nnamdi Kanu is not interested in killing or suffering people but in the freedom of his people. The letter is actually his handwriting and I can confirm it.

The official spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Emma Powerful, had at several times reiterated that Mondays Sit-At-Home order remains cancelled, the last being in April 2023.

The IPOB stressed that the people in the rural areas still observed the sit-at-home due to fear of criminal enforcers claiming to be members of the group.

In his last statement, Emma Powerful said the continued Sit-At-Home order was aimed at rubbishing the group’s name.

In the statement, Powerful said: “We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great and indefatigable leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to remind Biafrans in Biafra Land, friends of Biafra, and lovers of Biafra freedom across the world that Monday sit-at-home remains suspended.

“We are concerned that in some areas, especially rural areas, our people continue to observe Monday sit-at-home due to threats from criminal enforcers linking themselves to the IPOB movement. We have said it numerous times that the Monday sit-at-home is infamous and can not be allowed to continue.

“IPOB leadership is always ahead of our enemies and canceled this tool before our enemies could start using it. We are telling all and sundry that sit-at-home HAS BEEN CANCELED.

“Our leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU, has once again ordered from DSS custody that Monday sit-at-home should cease in every part of Biafra land.

“IPOB is not and will never be responsible for any outcome arising from this non-existent sit-at-home, and we shall no longer talk about it.

“Ndigbo are not cowards and, therefore, should normalize their Mondays like before. Anyone seen enforcing Monday sit-at-home should be treated as a criminal and enemy of our people”, the last statement from IPOB before Nnamdi Kanu’s handwritten letter stated.

However, Mazi Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Biafra Prime Minister in exile, remained adamant and continued to order Sit-At-Home on Mondays and the last was a one week Sit-At-Home before he declared a 14-day Sit-At-Home from end of July. Read more stories
