The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced special discounts on nomination and expression of interest forms for women, youths and persons living with disabilities (PWDs), as part of efforts to deepen inclusion and participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the party said the initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring that all categories of Nigerians are actively integrated into the nation’s democratic process.

The NDC stated that the move aligns with one of its founding promises to carry every Nigerian along, including citizens in the Diaspora, regardless of age, gender or physical condition.

According to Enekweizu, financial limitations and societal barriers should not prevent young people and persons living with disabilities from contributing to national development through elective offices.

He noted that women have also continued to face cultural and structural obstacles that have limited their participation in politics, stressing the need for affirmative measures to encourage their involvement in governance and leadership.

The party maintained that Nigeria risks undermining its democratic growth if women, who make up a significant percentage of the population, are excluded from active political participation.

Under the new arrangement, all female aspirants seeking elective offices on the platform of the NDC will pay only 50 per cent of the approved fees for both Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

The same 50 per cent concession, the statement added, will apply to aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35, while persons living with disabilities will pay just 25 per cent of the advertised fees.

The party further clarified that forms for presidential, governorship and National Assembly positions would be obtained at its National Secretariat in Abuja, while forms for State Houses of Assembly elections would be available at the party’s respective state offices nationwide.

The NDC described the policy as part of broader efforts to promote inclusiveness, encourage broader participation in governance and strengthen democratic representation ahead of the 2027 polls.
