The Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya Campaign Council has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee to issue a formal apology to Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya for initially releasing a communiqué adopting a candidate contrary to the party’s constitution.
The council made the demand in a statement jointly signed at the weekend by Hon. Alfa Nma, Director General (DG) and Mr Joseph Garba, Public Relations Officer (PRO) on its behalf.
The council recalled that Hon. Ajiya had on January 13, 2025 filed a petition addressed to the Zonal Chairman, PDP North Central Zone, accusing the PDP FCT State Publicity Secretary and her cohorts of allegedly planning to manipulate the election, prevent due process, and impose unpopular candidates without election and due process ahead of the party’s zonal congress.
The council equally recalled that “the communiqué in question, signed by Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, PDP FCT State Publicity Secretary on December 19, 2024, purportedly nominated Alhaji Abdulrahma Mohammed as the sole candidate for Chairman PDP North Central zone, contrary to the party’s constitution.”
However, in a recent communiqué released on February 6, 2025, the PDP FCT Executive Committee stated that “favouritism and imposition of aspirants will not be tolerated” and emphasized the need for transparent and credible processes to produce winnable candidates.
The council argued that the earlier endorsement communiqué of December 19, 2024, issued by the PDP FCT State Publicity undermines the democratic process and disregards the rights of aspirants.
“The PDP FCT State Publicity Secretary and her cohorts allegedly planned to manipulate the election, prevent due process, and impose unpopular candidates without election and due process,” the council alleged.
“We demand a reversal of the purported endorsement of an aspirant against another and an unreserved apology to Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya”, the council affirmed.
The campaign council warned that failure to comply may lead to legal action, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. “We stand firm in our commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, and we will not hesitate to take all necessary steps to protect the rights of Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya and the people of the North Central Zone PDP.”
