In a surprise move, Kenneth Okonkwo, the former Spokesperson of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organization, announced his departure from the Labour Party and the Obidients. Okonkwo had criticized Obi’s approach to party matters, accusing him of failing to resolve the internal crisis rocking the Labour Party.

However, Peter Obi has swiftly responded to the development, dismissing claims that Okonkwo was a mole within the organization. According to Yunusa Tanko, Chief Spokesman of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Obi expressed sadness over Okonkwo’s departure, viewing him as a “junior brother” who diligently played his role during the campaign.

Obi emphasized that Okonkwo’s contributions to the struggle for a new Nigeria cannot be understated, and he cannot be labeled a mole. Obi authorized Tanko to make his views public, clarifying that there is no personal misunderstanding between him and Okonkwo, but rather a disagreement on style and approach to problem-solving.

In a direct response, Obi reiterated that Okonkwo’s differing opinion does not make him an enemy, but a strong voice and friend. He emphasized the importance of respect and decorum even when disagreeing, and urged all believers of a New Nigeria to remain strong, resilient, and focused, refraining from discouragement or negative remarks towards Okonkwo or anyone who leaves or disagrees with their views.

Obi’s statement reassures the public that the departure is amicable and does not indicate any deeper divisions within the Obidients. His commitment to unity and cohesion within the Labour Party and the Obidients is evident, demonstrating the importance of camaraderie and shared vision in the pursuit of a better Nigeria.
