The Department of State Services (DSS) has adopted a strategic approach to manage planned protest groups across the country, warning against violence and chaos.
In a statement, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya revealed that the agency has identified sponsors and funding lines of the protests, which aim to overthrow the federal government.
While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, the DSS cautioned against violence, anarchy, and destruction of property.
The agency has engaged in behind-the-scenes efforts to dissuade protesters from causing chaos, using moral suasion, stakeholder engagement, and diplomatic shuttles.
The DSS warned protest groups to avoid violence, urging them to engage with authorities peacefully.
The Service also called on various groups, including leaders, industry captains, labor unions, and civil society organizations, to reject invitations to participate in orchestrated violence.
Parents and guardians were advised to caution their children and wards against participating in the protests. The DSS assured that it would work with other security agencies to maintain peace, using legitimate methods to prevent violence.
By adopting a proactive and strategic approach, the DSS aims to prevent the protests from escalating into chaos and violence, ensuring the safety of citizens and the stability of the nation.
