All eyes are now on the Federal Capital Territory as Abuja prepares to host what is shaping up to be one of the most consequential political gatherings in recent years.

The National Political Summit billed for Tuesday, November 11, 2025 has taken on a new dimension, following the heightened tensions stirred by President Donald J. Trump’s blunt warning over the continued killings and insecurity in Nigeria.

Organisers say the wave of responses from within and outside the country has been overwhelming — with the Presidency, respected statesmen, political gatekeepers, foreign development partners, and key civil society leaders submitting written interventions for inclusion in the official summit programme.

Top insiders at the Local Organising Committee (LOC) told ABUJA BUSINESS REPORTS on Sunday that the summit is now emerging as a citizens-led diplomatic front — a platform where Nigeria is expected to take ownership of the national reform conversation amid rising international scrutiny.

The Conference Hall of the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja is expected to host an unprecedented blend of participants: senior federal officials, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), former and serving governors, Chairmen of National Assembly electoral reform committees, presidential hopefuls, envoys from the U.S., U.K., the European Union, Commonwealth, ECOWAS, the African Union and other global partners.

“This is no longer just a consultative meeting,” one LOC source explained. “It has quickly evolved into a national stabilisation platform.”

The SGF is billed to lead the federal government’s delegation, with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum mobilising a number of state governors to attend physically. The INEC Chairman is confirmed, alongside heads of constitutional amendment committees at the National Assembly. Summit accreditation has already exceeded the initial estimate of 500 participants.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been announced as Chairman of the summit, while former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will deliver the keynote address — in a symbolic pairing that organisers hope can help steer a consensus narrative for national healing.

In a significant new twist, a dedicated “National Security Session” has been created to examine the global impact of Trump’s comments — and how Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic positioning may be affected if decisive steps are not taken.

Summit organisers say they hope to close on Tuesday with a unified national declaration, pushing forward specific constitutional adjustments needed to secure national stability and ensure more credible elections in 2027.

For many watchers — in government circles, diplomatic missions and the business community — Tuesday may well be the day Nigeria sets the tone for a new national direction.
