A storm is brewing in the Labour Party as the National Transition Committee (NTC) has issued a stark warning to party members and the general public against the planned membership registration/validation, congresses, and national convention called by the suspended former Acting National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure.
The LP-NTC, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, described Abure’s actions as “yet another illegal crime enterprise” and urged Nigerians to stay away from the planned events.
According to the Labour Party NTC, Abure’s tenure as chairman has expired, and any act conducted by him or his expired council on behalf of the Labour Party is null and void.
The committee cited the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) rejection of Abure’s attempts to process and submit documentation for the Ondo state gubernatorial election and the commission’s recognition of the LP-NTC as the legitimate authority to conduct party affairs.
The LP-NTC alleged that Abure has struck a deal with a frontline ruling political party to conduct “Labour Party state congresses and National Convention by any means” to ensure maximum anarchy and disintegrate the Labour Party.
The Labour Party NTC warned that Abure’s actions would lead to disastrous consequences for the party and urged the Nigeria Police and the press to take action against him.
The LP-NTC also alleged that Abure and his team have been bankrolled by the ruling political party to conduct the illegal congresses and national convention, with promises of ministerial and senatorial slots in 2027.
The committee called on the police to prevent Abure’s “Broadway series of daylight crimes” and prosecute him for his alleged offenses.
The LP-NTC urged the press to beam its gatekeepers’ lights on Abure’s “incorrigible felonies” and save Nigeria from the shame and mockery of its democracy. “Democracy dies in the dark,” the LP-NTC quoted the Washington Post’s motto, emphasizing the need for the press to expose Abure’s alleged crimes.
The committee emphasized that it would not sit back and allow Abure to destroy the Labour Party, the last hope of social-political and economic liberation of Nigeria.
The Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar led committee emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the Labour Party is not destroyed by Abure’s alleged illegal activities.
It will be recalled that Abure’s tenure as National Chairman expired on June 10, 2024. Before the expiration of his tenure, Abure was suspended by the Labour Party in Ward 3, Arue, Uromi in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The Labour Party NTC has called on all genuine Labour Party members, democracy lovers, long suffering workers, and masses of Nigeria to join forces with them to fight against Abure and his co-conspirators. “Together, we can save the Labour Party and Nigeria’s democracy from the clutches of Abure and his sponsors,” the committee stated.
