The National Commission against the Proliferation of Arms, Light Weapons, and Pipeline Vandalism (NATCOM) has issued a clarion call of dissociation from the alleged illicit conduct of its erstwhile Acting Director-General, Adejare Adegbenro.

With legal proceedings underway, NATCOM’s message is unequivocal: Adegbenro acted alone.

As Adegbenro faces prosecution for alleged fraudulent activities with national security implications, NATCOM has taken to the press to assert its integrity. Shally Charles Theophilus, the commission’s Public Relations Officer, articulated this stance in a Sunday statement.

NATCOM’s volunteers embody professionalism and legality, Theophilus declared, saying that the actions of one do not define the many.

Prior to Adegbenro’s arrest, NATCOM had already signaled its lack of confidence in him, with Dr. Agaba Iduh Fidel—Office of the Interim Director General (now Acting DG)—issuing a memo that explicitly distanced the commission from Adegbenro’s activities.

“The public should be aware that any actions by Adegbenro were not sanctioned by NATCOM’s leadership,” Theophilus reinforced.

Moreover, NATCOM has revealed that at the time of his alleged offenses and arrest, Adegbenro was no longer in office and was falsely representing himself as the Acting DG of NATCOM.

As the commission anticipates Presidential Assent for its official establishment and the naming of a permanent Director General, it reiterated its unwavering commitment to lawful operations and sanctioned partnerships with pertinent security agencies and government bodies.

While Adegbenro prepares to confront his charges, NATCOM said it remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard national security with honour and lawful diligence after the anticipated due legislative and presidential actions.
