Runsewe To Support IBB Lady Golfers On Culture Friendly Tournaments

The Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe has pledged his support to the IBB lady golfers to make their upcoming tournaments culture friendly.

Otunba Runsewe made this commitment in his office when he played host to a delegation of the planning committee for the tournaments led by Joy Ikwue, the lady Captain of the IBB golf club, who were in his office on a courtesy visit.

Runsewe while welcoming the delegation to his office thanked them for creating a platform to make their competitions culture friendly which will encourage the use of our local fabrics like Ankara and Adire to produce their golf attires.

The Director General who is also the President, Nigerian Golf Federation remarked that he has been in the forefront of promoting the use of our local fabrics adding that he was happy the female section is also thinking in the same direction.

“No one will celebrate what you have until you show to the world that what you have is good. I have been on the forefront of this move that is why I play golf with local fabrics and I’m glad you are taking the lead to promote our culture” Runsewe stated.

The NGF president informed that he has been able to inject the cultural golf content in the National Festival of Arts and Culture, one of the cardinal programmes of the council which was endorsed by His Imperial Majesty, the Oba of Benin during the Edo NAFEST.

Runsewe thanked the committee for creating the veritable platform to showcase our rich cultural heritage adding that his dream as the NGF president is to see every golfer using our local fabrics on the golf courses

He reiterated the commitment of Council to support the committee with cultural gift items for the first, second and third place winners during the championship on Saturday, September 10.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and Lady Captain of IBB golf club, Joy Ikwue said they were in the office to congratulate Otunba Runsewe for the successful hosting of the first ever summit for Captains of all golf clubs in the country and stakeholders in the golf circle.

The Lady Captain mentained that the lady section of the IBB golf club is proud to be associated with Otunba Runsewe the icon of culture who has contributed in no all measure to the development of golf in Nigeria

She said they were in the culture headquarters to invite the Director General to the forth coming Ladys golf tournaments slated for the 10th of September and 18th of October respectively and seek collaboration and support of the council to make the tournament culture friendly and spice the game of golf with arts and culture.

“Golf community is a large place where people assemble, network, exhibit their cultural strength and appreciate each other’s culture. We are providing that platform” the Lady Captain stressed.

The President of the Nigeria Golf Federation assured the organising committee of every support needed to successfully host the tournament and develop the game of golf in the country.

He also promised to mount the OSR exhibition stand to showcase various collections centered around the game of golf.
