Imo ALGON Chairman, Hon. Okoliegwo To Receive Coveted SDG Humanitarian Award in Abuja

The International Peace and Governance Council headquartered in Atlanta Georgia USA is set to confer the prestigious Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Humanitarian Personality Award to the Executive Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State and the state ALGON Chairman, Hon. Willie T. C. Okoliegwo.

The award was after rigorous profiling and background check on the Chairman as he bags the highest honour of the Grassroots Ambassador of Peace Award.

This followed the adoption of the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable development in 2015 alongside the international Peace and Governance Council (IPAC) USA in it’s patriot stand towards rewarding examplary political office holders at the Grassroots level knowing the value-multiplier effect of such impact in strengthening and growing good model of leaders at that level.

Highlights of the August event will feature the Pan African Leadership Symposium and Honours organized to build capacity of African leaders, entrench peace, develope skills and domesticate some negotiation designs for community peace building.

Imo which has came under attack in the recent times need such reward incentive to good leaders who are supporting the return of peace and tranquility across the Communities.

The event Chairman and Head of the Organizer,  His Excellency, Amb. (Dr) Jonathan Ojadah Daniel, in a letter to the Imo State ALGON Chairman said noted that “after much scrutiny and findings about you from your local government area and the national headquarters of ALGON in Abuja, the nomination committee of the international peace and governance council wish to congratulate you as a deserved recipient of these coveted honour of The Grassroots Ambassador Of Peace Award.

“Following the adoption of the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in 2015, International Peace and Governance Council (IPGC), USA contributes to the follow-up towards the realization of Peace, Justice & Poverty Eradication (ECOSOC Resolution 2015/16).

“We are in collaboration with Arise O Nigeria Centre For Leadership & Enterprise Development to host the 8th Edition of Pan African Leadership Symposium & Honors (PALESH) to commemorate the United Nations World Humanitarian Day”, the nomination letter stated.

The organisers added that “the SDG Awards aims to honor outstanding personalities who have contributed positively in Peace Dialogues/Conflict resolutions, grassroots community development, massive youth & women capacity building while uniting leaders who have strong passion for human’ty and serving as catalysts of social change in the society.

“The SDG Awards is a way of celebrating individuals who championed the promotion of Peace, Justice and empowerment of youths and women in accordance with the UN declaration.

“In line with the IPGC tradition and in honor of your great achievements, IPGC is pleased to honor you with Leadership Excellence and Sustainable Development Goal SDG grassroot Ambassador of peace Award.

“This recognition is to recognize your passion for humanity and your charitable endeavors which have impacted lives of many children, youths and women through the efforts of your Leadership Social responsibilities in your Local Government”, the international council said.

Hon. Okoliegwo will be honoured alongside other notable African leaders, including His Excellencies, Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya; Yoweri Museveni, President Of Uganda; Felix Tshisekedi, President Of Democratic Of Congo; Mrs Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, President Of Zimbabwe; and Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, Prime Minister of Cameroon. 

The event holds in Abuja today, Friday, August 19.
