Special Duties Minister, Akume Resigns

In compliance with the provisions of article 84 (12) of the electoral Act 2022, a novel prescription for potential aspirants holding political appointments not to be qualified to vote as a delegate or to be voted for at the party convention or congress for the purpose of nomination as candidates for any election, Senator Dr. George Akume has resigned.

Senator Akume secretly resigned his appointment as the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs to enable him exercise his function as a national delegate in the Presidential Primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akume, a two-term governor of Benue State and a three-time Senator, was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari into the federal cabinet in 2019.

It was gathered that others who resigned their appointment alongside their leader are Hon. Mike Msuaan, a member of Governing Board, Federal Polytechnic, Wannune and Chief Simon Shango, the Board Chairman, College of Education (Tec), Isu, Ebonyi State.
