Abuja Business Reports Journalist, Four Others Nominated For ICIR Investigative Journalism Award

Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim, an award-winning journalist, fellow AIJC and a freelance journalist with Abuja Business Reports has been shortlisted for the annual ICIR Investigative Journalism Award.

Muhammad Auwal was announced as one of the five finalists on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 by the UCJ, UI chapter at the University of Ibadan, Oyo state.

The award-winning journalist was shortlisted for his timely ICT story which was very impactful owing to the advancement of technology across the globe.

Others on the shortlist are Abiodun Jamiu, Abdulwaheed SofiulLahi and Oluwatobi Odeyinka and Abdulrasheed Hammad.

The statement read, “The winners will be announced at the UCJ UI Dinner/Awards/Handover ceremony on the 23rd of October, 2021 at Abdulsalam Abubakar Hall, University of Ibadan.”

“The first prize winner will take home a grand prize of N120,000 with other benefits, while the first runner-up and the second runner-up will receive a sum of N80, 00 and N50, 000 with other benefits respectively as well.”

Reacting to making the shortlist, Auwal glorified Almighty Allah and expressed his happiness, “Alhamdu lilLah, just coming online to see that I was shortlisted for the annual ICIR Investigative Journalism Award. This shows nothing but how I am fair and just to all in my reports. I am always happy whenever I receive good news like this. It is very encouraging when judges and people from other communities read and grade my piece with good grades. I pray that may Allah bless it.“

It will be recalled that in 2020, he was selected as a fellow of African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC20) hosted by the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, Wits Journalism, and he was also shortlisted for the annual Youth Digest Campus Journalism Awards 2020.

Not only that, he has won the Inaugural Lekan Otufodunrin Journalists Awards 2021 recently and got nominated for another Global fellowship titled ‘Climate Tracker COP26’.

He is expected to be in Accra, Ghana on Friday as a nominee of the prestigious West African Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) 2021.
