The Grand Council of Yoruba Youths has carpeted former Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Sanni Yerima over his public declaration of intention to contest the 2023 Presidency, describing the move as “just to seek public attention again.”

The youths in a statement signed by the President General of the Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, Comrade AWA Bamiji also said, “We will recall he was controversially in the news like this in past, on two occasions.

“First, was when he introduced Sharia Law in Zamfara State, for the first in the history of any State administration in Nigeria and the negative reaction that trailed it was that his style of Sharia Law was selective in dealing with Petty Thieves and leaving the corrupt Politicians or Civil Servants out of the arm amputation system.

“Second, As advocate of Child marriage, he got married to an Egyptian Minor, while he was on the floor of the Senate, after spending Eight consecutive years, 1999 to 2007, as former Governor of Zamfara State, an action that was supposed to attract the Sharia Law sanction that he personally introduced in the State.

“This is his Third time, he is on his own because he doesn’t enjoy popular support within the State any more, not to talk of his Region. So, we don’t see his statement as a threat to our much cherised fairness, equity, justice and peaceful co – existence among various ethnic Groups in Nigeria.

“We equally wish him continued Happy married life with his Egyptian Minor”, the group stated.

According to the youths, “With the position of our Governors, it means, we, the entire Southerners, now have a bond that tied us firmly together on the 2023 Rotational Presidency and we have a huge number of the Progressive minded individuals in the North to match it, which will make it easier to beat any trouble maker or a light weight Presidential Aspirant like him hands down anytime, any day.”
