OYO LG Polls: ALGON National President Hails Gov Makinde on Grassroots Democracy

Few hours after the announcement of the winners of the Oyo State Local Governments election by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), the National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon Alabi Kolade David has sent his congratulatory message to the council Chairmen-elect.

Alabi who could not hold his joy, praised Governor Seyi Makinde for the successful election.

He stated that domestic peace towards the issue of governance has finally come the way of Oyo State and will join other democratically elected officers across the country to entrench service delivery through effective representation and people-oriented projects within the financial reach of the councils.

Alabi noted that Oyo has been a model of excellence to behold and as ‘Pace Setter’ of which the new Chairmen must live up such expectations.

He said that though the Nation is fraught with economic and security challenges especially at the rural areas, the newly elected Council Chairmen must strife to keep tabs with security forces, traditional rulers, town Union’s, vigilantes and other stakeholders to secure the communities and guarantee cordial coexistence.

He further admonished them to de-escalate all rural violence, respect the rights of their constituents and to corporate with the Governor in accomplishing those responsibilities that are examplary for others to follow.

He concluded by welcoming them as members of ALGON for service to the grassroots.
