Katsina State Government is spending about fourty three million naira to support irrigation activities in thirty two sites accross the state.
The Deputy Governor Alhaji Mannir Yakubu who is also commissioner of Agriculture stated this while flagging off this year irrigation farming at kwanar Are irrigation site in Rimi local government area.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Musa Kallah in a statement disclosed that the Deputy Governor was represented by Special Adviser to the State Governor on Agriculture, Dr Abba Yakubu Abdullahi.
He explained that present administration has attached special attention to Agriculture since its inception.
The Deputy Governor said currently it is operating a pilot scheme on cotton production in collaboration with Ahmadu Bello university zaria.
In his remark the permanent secretary ministry of Agriculture suleiman Ahmed karofi said the state has been providing inputs on Agriculture to irrigation farmers at subsidized rate which include water pumping machines, improve seeds, sprayer, Dam repairs among others.
He called on Farmers to reciprocate the gesture by dedicating themselves to farming activities for food security.
Earlier, in his welcome address the director irrigation Engineer shamsudden suleiman appreciate the support of the state Government in irrigation activities.
In a vote of thanks one of the irrigation Farmers Hon suleiman Idris kadandani applauded the state govt support and called for dredging of kwanar Are Dam.
Highlight of the event include inspection of the irrigation site.
