Nigerian legislators at the House of Representatives have questioned the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, demanding full details of the activities and whereabouts of 15 Chinese team of medical experts who visited Nigeria a month ago.
The lawmakers at their plenary on Tuesday said they are not satisfied with the explanation given by the Minister, who said that the Chinese doctors are not guests of the Federal Ministry of Health but that of a Chinese firm in Abuja.
The resolution of the House stems from a motion of urgent public importance raised by Representative Dachung Bagos.
Abuja Business Reports recall that while responding to questions at the daily Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing said the medical personnel “are not guests of the Federal Government but CCECC, a construction company.”
Before the Tuesday query regarding the whereabouts andhand activities of the expatiates in Nigeria, the media and opposition parties has been agog since May 14 with questions and counter questions about the where about of the medical team, following the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire’s comment that the experts were not his guests but CCECC’s.
Despite that Mr. Jiang Yigao in the interview confirmed the experts came into the country “to share their experiences in fighting the COVID-19” and they have remained with them, corroborating the position of the health ministry, the lawmakers have expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation.
But some analysts on Tuesday night told Abuja Business Reports that it was possible that the legislative members who resolved to question the Minister of Health were yet to read the comments of the CCECC’s managing director before plenary.
