Pro-democracy group, the Nsukka Democratic Movement (NDM) has commended the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, High Chief Patrick Omeje over his proactiveness and commitment to securing the lives and property of the residents of the council in line with the vision of Governor Ifeanyi administration.
The group while reacting to media reports on how the council chairman’s alertness recently saved Nsukka community after COVID-19 scare in the ancient town.
It was reported that a corpse was smuggled through the Kogi – Enugu border through Okpuje/Okutu/Anuka Ward from Kano State but was intercepted by the council chairman.
“We highly commend Hon. Patrick Omeje, for living up to the directive by the Executive Governor of Enugu State to the 17 Council Chairmen in the state to mobilise and police borders of their local government that are contiguous with other states.
“For us, the reported gallantry by the Chairman who got wind of the corpse that was already deposited at the Bishop Shannahan Specialists Hospital during his routine checks and ordered that those who perpetrated the act be tracked and apprehended is worthy of accolades.
“We therefore call of the people to be more vigilant and keep the borders tightly manned at this time to avert an outbreak of COVID19 in Nsukka or the environs”, the statement read.
